• BMW Scheduled Maintenance

  One of the many reasons there are so many older BMWs on the road is because of the factory scheduled maintenance regime. The engineers at BMW who designed the vehicles devised a schedule of parts and fluid replacement based on an estimation of the real-world life expectancy of these components and fluids. In the 1980’s BMW began a rigorous, yet easy to follow and understand, mileage-based system with the Service One and Service Two, also called the Inspection One and Inspection Two. While there were minor differences between vehicles depending on engine families and models, the Service One was generally a minor service with an oil change, while the Service Two involved a major tune-up. Additionally, inspections of the vehicle, in pretty fair detail in the case of the Service two, are included. Following this maintenance schedule extended the longevity of an already well-built car, found issues before they became problems, and saved owners money because maintenance is less expensive than breakdown repair. With the explosion of sensor technology in the early 2000’s, BMW began the adoption of what they term Condition Based Services (CBS). The vehicle monitors the condition of consumable components and fluids, like brakes and oil, and inform through the display how much life is left with a mileage estimate. Regardless the technology or name, the recommendations are made to prevent breakdown and allow for maintenance on a schedule, and one that is convenient for the owner.   The Environment Pacific Motorsports is committed to operating in a manner that uses our resources wisely with a focus on environmental responsibility. We were the first Portland business to have renewable power from PG&E. We use oil in bulk to minimize our use of plastic containers. All waste oil is used to heat our shop area by using a highly efficient oil burning furnace instead of disposing of it. All of our lighting was converted to LED in conjunction with the Energy Trust of Oregon in order to continue to minimize our impact and reduce consumption. Even our corporate vehicle is an all-electric BMW i3.

• Pre Purchase Inspections

  Pre Purchase Inspections in Portland, OR Cars are about emotion, they are all about how they make us feel. This is why they come in so many shapes, sizes, and flavors. Otherwise, they’d be monochromatic boxes or bubbles, oriented merely towards transportation. The emotions surrounding cars get heightened when we see something we’d like to own and picture ourselves behind the wheel. Sometimes we get carried away, making purchasing decisions without sufficient relevant information. Getting a vehicle you’re interested in inspected by experienced professionals before you buy it can prevent the possible downside of an impulsive action. The Pre Purchase Inspection process here at Pacific Motorsports incorporates our decades of experience, the extensive experience of our factory-trained Master Technicians, and our conservative best practices approach. Starting with the factory BMW or MINI inspection regime used to qualify vehicles for the certified pre-owned sales program, we inspect at least 104 different points on the car, depending on the equipment and options present. The exterior is reviewed for leaks and damage, systems are actuated (e.g., wipers, ventilation, windows, etc.), a road test is performed, diagnostic checks utilizing the factory computer of electric and electronic codes are run, and the vehicle is hoisted, underbody covers are removed and a thorough inspection of the undercarriage is conducted. This work takes us 2-4 hours to perform depending on the specific vehicle and requires an advance appointment so that it may be scheduled with one of our three factory trained Level 1 Master Technicians (BMW and MINI’s highest worldwide qualification).
